Noguchi and Greece book
A magnificent book, already a Collector's item...
A two-volume archival exploration of Noguchi's enduring relationship with Greece.
Noguchi and Greece, Greece and Noguchi examines the relationship between one of the most celebrated artists of the twentieth century, Isamu Noguchi, and the Mediterranean country he visited regularly for decades, through the prism of Objects of Common Interest (OoCI). This two-volume set examines the influence of Greek culture on Noguchi's work and the metamorphosed identity he established by engaging with multiple cultures, diverse practitioners and a variety of mediums.
Letters, photographs, sketches and words by the artist himself - some previously unpublished - reveal Noguchi's intimate relationship with Greece. New texts explore the Japanese-American interdisciplinary creative community, including futurist Buckminster Fuller and choreographer Martha Graham, while contemporary visual essays reinterpret Noguchi's enduring legacy through today's art and design practices.
New texts explore Noguchi's fruitful collaborations with his creative community, including futurist architect Buckminster Fuller and choreographer Martha Graham, and reinterpret Noguchi's enduring legacy through today's art and design practices. The texts presented are by Diane Apostolos-Cappadona, Hsiao-Yun Chu, Dakin Hart, Noguchi, Fuller, Jannis Varelas, Nicholas Paissios and Katerina Koskina. Photographers Marco Arguello, Iwan Baan, Yiannis Bournias, Lauren Coleman, Brian W Ferry, Adrianna Glaviano, Brooke Holmes, Naho Kubota, Mathjis Labadie, Jana Romanova, Omar Sator, Matthieu Salvaing and Stefanos Tsakiris provide visual responses to the work of the OoCI, in relation to Noguchi's constantly evolving practice.
Noguchi and Greece, Greece and Noguchi is an extension of a research and exhibition project initiated by OoCI with the Noguchi Museum in New York.
