M400 staircase

The M400 staircase is an icon of contemporary design whose aerial silhouette seems to be suspended in the void.

In 1966, Roger Tallon designed this staircase for CIFOM, the professional association of foundrymen, as part of a project to develop the uses of cast steel.

In view of its success, after having been produced in a few experimental examples in steel, from 1968 onwards it was produced in cast aluminium by the Lacloche gallery, run by Jacques Lacloche and later by his son Francis, who produced and distributed it for almost 2 decades in 3 different diameters under the name of the M400 version.

In 1974, Roger Tallon created a second version of the staircase, the TH model, with aluminium cores and laminated wood treads.

Sentou took over production and distribution of the 110cm diameter M400 version and the TH model in 1986, and continued to produce them using the original tools in a foundry in the south of France.
